Sunbiz name search guide

Search the Sunbiz record database before you file to see whether a similar name is already on record. A Florida LLC name must include "Limited Liability Company", "LLC" or "L.L.C.", and a corporation name must include a word such as "Corporation", "Company" or "Incorporated" or its abbreviation. The Division makes the final call when it reviews your filing.

Does a Sunbiz search reserve my name?

No. A search only shows existing records; the name is accepted when the Division approves your filing.

Can I use "Inc." for an LLC?

No. An LLC must use an LLC designator; corporate endings are for corporations.

Is a trademark search the same thing?

No. Sunbiz shows state entity records only; trademark rights are a separate question for an attorney.
